DRIVE YOUR GOALS TOWARD A VISION

For the past few months, I have been immersing myself in
all kinds of wonderful literature. Most of my reading has
been contemporary, and I’ve even started indulging in some
wonderful audio books and learning programs, including the
famous Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown, The Purpose-Driven Life
by Rick Warren, and The Spontaneous Fulfillment of Desire
by Deepak Chopra. I have found that in order to teach a
concept well, you need to learn about 10 times as much as
you are prepared to teach in order to know the concept
well. (Then, when you go out and teach the concept, the
true learning begins!).

One of the resounding themes in many of the books that I
have read recently is the need – in fact, the absolute
necessity – of having a vision if you truly want to succeed
in life. Whatever your goals and dreams may be, and those
can and do change as we grow and develop ourselves, the key
to making your goals "stick" is to have a vision that
compels you and drives you to take action!

For weeks, I had been telling myself that I would get to
the gym and resume a "regular routine," but it wasn’t until
I wrote down a vision of the person I wanted to become and
the health benefits of working out on a regular basis that
my goals started getting some traction, and results started
showing!

We are all creatures of habit, and sometimes those habits
are not good ones. For example, some of us (present company
included!) fall into the trap of procrastinating – putting
for another day or another time, what could easily be done
today. In pushing our goals aside for the sake of temporary
comfort, we often get sidetracked from doing the daily
things necessary to fulfill our deepest desires.

Having goals alone will only get you so far. Having a
clear, powerful, detailed VISION will give you the
momentum, energy, and drive you need to succeed…all the way
to the finish line!

Here’s an exercise I’d like you to complete:

Sit down and reflect for a moment on what you would like
your life to look and feel like 12 months from now – April
of 2006. Then, write down some details of what your life is
like.

Maybe you are just settling into a new position at work to
which you have been promoted. Perhaps you have had to
update your wardrobe to reflect your new, trimmer physique.
Or maybe you are on the verge of achieving an important
milestone in your life. Think about how your life has
improved in the last year, and what your most important
accomplishments and personal breakthroughs have been. Take
time to enjoy this moment, and congratulate yourself in
advance! Say to yourself, "Congratulations! You have a lot
to be proud of!"

Now, make a list of five things you can do in the next 12
months to ensure that you achieve your vision. Then, write
down how you (and possibly others) will benefit from making
this vision a reality. Keep these "action steps" close by
and refer to them often.

This exercise has worked so well for me, and continues to
work, so I highly recommend it. The beauty of this exercise
is that never gets old and never gets "outdated" because
our lives are always changing and so our visions need to be
updated at least once a year to reflect those changes.

THE PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT CHALLENGE

In just a few short months, my friend Brian Kelly, and I
will be publishing an interactive, motivational workbook,
that we hope will challenge a lot of people to meet and
achieve their personal development goals. Our motto in
developing this road map is "If you work the book, the book
will work!" The title of the workbook is "Canu Spell
SUCCESS: The Personal Development Challenge."

The purpose of this book is to get you to:

• pump your mind
• invest in your attitude
• focus on your goals
• become totally committed to success
• develop your natural leadership skills

and finally...to take THE PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT CHALLENGE!

Unlike other authors out there begging people to read their
books, Brian and I DARE you to not only read this workbook,
but to actually APPLY all the principles and steps
contained in it. If you do, we believe the positive changes
in your life, which will be driven by your own customized
road map, will be dramatic!

Why a workbook and not a lengthy, several-hundred page
book? Because we want to throw down a challenge in 9 short,
concrete chapters that you will be able to act upon
immediately. We dare you to get past the first chapter, and
the second, and the third. The only one holding yourself
accountable will be YOU! The only one who can ensure your
success is YOU!

What's in it for you??

- The satisfaction of making small, consistent, daily
changes that can make a dramatic difference in your quality
of life.

- The chance to inspire other people by sharing your
success stories with others.

- The opportunity to win cash and other prizes as a result
of your own success.

More details will be available soon!

CLOSING THOUGHTS

To achieve your goals, you must have a clear, powerful, and
detailed vision of your future! Then, make a list of action
steps that will ensure that you get there! Let me leave you
with the words of contemporary Christian singer Wintley
Phipps: "The ability to dream is one of the most mysterious
and glorious privileges of the human heart." Use that
privilege wisely and you will spell success many times in
your life!

See you next time,
