QUOTE OF THE MONTH:
"Most people plan their vacations with better care than
they plan their lives."

FINE-TUNE YOUR FOCUS

Dashed dreams and missed opportunities are often the result
of a lack of focus. Nine times out of ten, we will achieve
our goals if we apply enough focus and concentration. Our
thoughts transmit a force field of energy into the world,
attracting whatever images and realities we think about
consistently. Positive thoughts applied consistently to our
subconscious minds lead to positive results. Similarly,
negative and self-defeating thoughts over time lead to
negative and self-defeating results.

Begin today to set long-term goals for yourself. These
goals should be “set to hatch” at least five to ten years
in the future. The main reason for setting these goals so
far in advance is that achieving them will require energy,
patience, and the cultivation of habits and attitudes that
will help bring those goals to fruition.

Many people get turned off by the idea of setting a goal
for twenty years from now. After all, they might argue, I
might be dead twenty years from now. Well, this is true,
but if everyone were to gauge their goals on how long we
were going to live, then nobody would ever set goals,
because nobody knows when their clock will stop ticking.
All the more reason to plan on living a life of purpose and
vision!

I believe we should have more goals written down than we
can possibly accomplish in our lifetime. We should have an
endless supply that we can draw from as our lives change
direction and our relationship with ourselves matures over
time.

Doctors and scientists are just a couple of examples of
professionals who dedicate their entire lives to a clear
purpose. They constantly strive to discover new and
inventive ways to improve humanity. They set goals for
achieving landmark discoveries within certain time periods.
We should do the same: live a purpose-driven life with
clear goals and objectives.

SET LONG-RANGE GOALS

Setting long-range goals requires a flexible mind and a
creative attitude. It worked when we were children. We
said, “When I grow up, I want to be a ….” While most of us
did not give ourselves a deadline for achieving our
childhood dreams, we were definitely looking at goals that
would take ten, twenty, or more years to materialize.

Now, you have an opportunity to put a rough deadline on
those goals, whether they include retirement planning,
vacation destinations, or career milestones. By writing
down your goals, you will be taking a definitive step
toward your goals that the majority of people never do –
putting your vision in print!

Author Brian Tracy says that 95% of people never write down
their goals. Then, they wonder why they have missed out on
opportunities to advance their careers, make more money, or
become healthier and happier.

Take the plunge! Write down your vision for the next five,
ten, fifteen, and twenty years. What kind of future do you
see for yourself?

What goals would you like to achieve by 2009? 2014? 2019?
2024? Perhaps you’ve never thought that far ahead. But it
couldn’t hurt to imagine! Say to yourself: “If I’m alive
and kickin’ in the year _____, what would I like to be
accomplishing with my life? How would I like to be spending
my time? With whom? Where?”

These thought-provoking questions will get you thinking
about your goals and dreams. Start writing them down. Then,
begin – one by one – to make them happen!

APPLY THE POWER OF FOCUS

A profound example of applying the power of focus to
surmount gigantic obstacles and achieve overwhelming
success is Andres Lara, a thriving entrepreneur who just
ten years ago, was living under the oppression of Cuban
rule before making the bold decision to flee for America.

Andres escaped on a boat from Cuba eight years ago, at the
age of sixteen. Having no other choice, Andres supported
himself through high school exchanging his labor at
restaurants for food. He used to painfully communicate with
others with two words in English and nonverbal messages.

Andres’ arrival in America left him disillusioned and
discouraged – he had been expecting doors to open for him
left and right. After all, he was now in the “land of
opportunity”, the “land of the free and home of the brave.”
He thought the American Dream was going to be waiting for
him on hands and knees. It didn’t take him long to realize
that opportunity was there, but that he would have to work
for it, just like everybody else who emigrates to this
land.

While at Montclair State University, encouraged by the pain
of harsh criticism about his accent, he turned to study
Personal Growth to build his shattered confidence. He
challenged his worst fear— speaking in front of others— and
started sharing the same principles that he used to build
his confidence.

Today, Andres, a.k.a. “The Cuban Guy,” is a rising star in
the speaking industry. He is the author of Inspire the
Sleeping Giant Within, the owner of Inspiration Time
magazine, president of A Success Training, Inc., and is the
creator of the Key to Success scholarship which is awarded
to first year college students.

By focusing his entire life-force (energy and concentrated
efforts) on his goals, Andres quickly became a positive
influence to thousands of people!
